CHS Celebrates its 23rd Holiday Sharing Program

(Lansdale, PA, October 28, 2008) – Community Housing Services (CHS) is celebrating its 23rd annual Holiday Sharing program. During the holiday season, the Holiday Sharing program brings joy to hundreds of families and individuals living in the Montgomery County area. Last year alone, 170 donors donated gifts for over 400 families and individuals.

The process of the program begins shortly after summer. Families and individuals in need from Montgomery County fill-out a short application and give a short gift wish list to CHS as donors contact CHS declaring their wish to adopt a family or individual for the holiday season. While keeping the identity of the clients anonymous, CHS gives the wish lists to the donors.

During the month before Christmas, donors drop-off wrapped gifts to the basement of Lansdale United Methodist Church, which is located across the street from the CHS office, where they are greeted by CHS staff and volunteers. A CHS representative calls the receiving family or individual to come pick-up the gifts.

Donors of the Holiday Sharing program begin contacting CHS in September hoping to adopt a family or individual through the agency. Last year, donors came from as far away as Berks County. They consisted of local individuals, families, organizations, churches, and corporations, including: Merck, PMA Insurance, Harleysville National Bank, American Heritage Credit Union, and Girl Scout troops. Some first-time donors include Prudential, the Reporter, the Times Herald, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) from the Cornerstone Church of Skippack, and Severn Trent Services Inc. CHS especially thanks the previous recipients of donations from the Holiday Sharing program who were able to adopt families themselves.

CHS respectfully request the generosity of the community again this year, as we anticipate the economic crisis, and the high costs of heating and fuel oil to only exacerbate the need for assistance this year.
