Accomplishments
CHS has a reputation for having programs that work. This reflects the strength and innovation of the CHS team and leadership. The agency has made the following noteworthy accomplishments under this leadership:
- 1983
- Received $34,000 from the Gannett Foundation to begin services to the Community
- 1984
- Received $13,000 from the Office of Aging and Adult Services to begin an Information and Referral Program
- Chosen by HUD as one of three PA agencies and of 78 nationally to receive funding for implementing a Self Sufficiency Program
- 1986
- Purchased its first apartment building for single parent families
- 1988
- Purchased a second apartment building for single parent families
- 1989
- Started a Lease Purchase Program with funding from DCA and William Penn Foundation
- 1990
- Purchased the first property and entered into the first lease /purchase arrangement
- 1991
- Entered a joint venture with a local citizen which developed Montgomery County's first community of (24) subsidized single family homes for very low-income families
- 1988
- Purchased a second apartment building for single parent families
- 1989
- Started a Lease Purchase Program with funding from DCA and William Penn Foundation
- 1995
- Was finalist in the Fannie Mae Foundation's National Maxwell Award of Excellence in Providing Affordable Housing Programs
- 1996
- Implemented Montgomery County's first Homebuyers' Education Program for low and moderate income people who wish to become homeowners
- 1997
- Initiated a collaborative with an area health care partnership to make free physical and mental health services available to the County's uninsured and under-insured population
- Was selected by HUD and the County Commissioners to administer the STEPS Program for women and children who are victims of domestic violence
- 1998
- Implemented Montgomery County's first transitional housing with supportive services program for homeless single males (called Ezra House)
- Assisted the 13th family with settlement on a home purchase through the lease/ purchase process
- Pacesetter Award - North Penn United Way
- 1990
- Purchased the first property and entered into the first lease /purchase arrangement
- 1991
- Entered a joint venture with a local citizen which developed Montgomery County's first community of (24) subsidized single family homes for very low-income families
- 1999
- Purchased the building at 4th and Broad Streets in Lansdale to provide a permanent home for the CHS/ Montco Mercy Health and Wellness Center
- Opened a thrift shop to raise funds for agency support
- 2000
- Merged the resources of another agency into CHS' program
- 2001
- Director receives "Make a Difference Award" from Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Inc.
- 2003
- Purchase of 311 North Broad Street as CHS's new office home
- Non-Profit Organization of the Year - North Penn Chamber of Commerce
- 2004
- Opened the USDA Food Cupboard
- Award of Excellence - North Penn United Way
- Twenty Year Anniversary
- 2005
- Reopened the thrift shop to raise funds for agency support
